The Royal is a vibrant, co-educational all-through school and as part of United Learning, we share the core values of ambition, confidence, determination, creativity, respect and enthusiasm; we believe in bringing out “The best in everyone”. Our commitment and vision are to ensure our pupils are future-ready. In a world of AI, it is more important than ever to make sure we nurture those skills that make us uniquely human.
Our bespoke Future Ready Curriculum, with weekly lessons from Reception right the way through to Upper Sixth, focuses on those skills our pupils need to help them succeed in our rapidly changing world. This new curriculum is a unique offering that supports young people in becoming intellectually, emotionally and practically prepared for future success. It gives them a chance to think creatively, take risks, collaborate, and shine beyond the traditional curriculum!
Through excellent teaching and high levels of individual support, we achieve impressive value-added scores comparable with what is achieved at the top schools in the UK. The best way to experience the warm atmosphere of the school is to come in and feel it for yourself. We are all about the individual here and that starts from the moment you first get in touch.
We would love the opportunity to discuss your child’s future at The Royal School.

A Royal pupil enjoys a strong rapport with their teachers, teachers who are not only subject specialists but also emotionally intelligent and know how to get the very best out of everyone. Students leave us with the qualifications and experience to take up places at the highest-performing universities. In 2022 The Royal School maintained its track record of entry into Russell Group Universities
We have an inclusive approach to sport and everyone has the opportunity to represent the school in sporting fixtures. Sport includes hockey, cricket and football for the boys and the girls play netball in addition to these. There is a fully-equipped school gym and our aim is to lay the foundations for an active and healthy lifestyle. We develop our elite sports players too and have a fantastic scholarship program.
There are many opportunities for pupils to become involved in this exciting area of school life, be it singing in St Paul’s Cathedral or performing on stage in a school play – these performances create memories to last a lifetime. The involvement of so many of our pupils in the performing arts is a testament to the value we put on educating the whole person. The confidence, self-belief and sheer enjoyment that so many of our pupils have found in the performing arts means that it is at the heart of school life.
At The Royal School, we offer a number of flexible boarding options to suit the needs of the modern UK and overseas families. Full, weekly and Flexi boarding can support families by allowing parents and children to find the right solution for them. Boarding in the 21st century is structured to complement academic life, promoting independence, allowing boarders to become fully immersed in school life, and developing a strong sense of belonging and an understanding of different cultures.
